Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the bank’s enterprise API strategy.
- Manage the API operating model lifecycle, including design standards, documentation, governance, and adoption practices.
- Own the enterprise API platform, including gateway, authentication frameworks, developer portal, and API catalog.
- Build secure and reusable frameworks for consistent API delivery.
- Define and enforce standards for API design, error handling, security controls, and performance management.
- Advise product, analysis, engineering, and business teams on effort, timing, feasibility, system design, and optimization.
- Implement API governance covering authentication, authorization, encryption, and threat protection.
- Provide strategic technical leadership and drive tactical execution of initiatives.
- Lead a team and direct engineering standards and platform adoption across multiple teams.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Typically at least 6 years of experience in software engineering, integration platforms, or distributed systems.
- Experience designing and implementing enterprise APIs and microservices architectures.
- Experience building and operating API platforms and gateway technologies.
- Deep understanding of operational reliability and complex system problem-solving.
- Experience synthesizing and directing engineering standards and platform adoption across multiple teams.
- Proven ability to lead a team.
- Current knowledge of development frameworks and application-security practices, including OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and mTLS.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, service-based architectures, and integration patterns.
- Preferred: financial services, payments, or other regulated-industry experience.
- Preferred: API developer portals, enterprise API catalogs, Kafka, event-driven architectures, cloud-native integrations, open banking, partner ecosystems, API analytics, and DevSecOps practices.
