Responsibilities
- Lead architecture, design, development, and evolution of large-scale cross-domain software systems and platform capabilities.
- Design and develop scalable backend APIs, distributed systems, cloud-native services, and high-volume data-processing capabilities.
- Drive technical strategy, architectural decisions, modernization, technical-debt reduction, and platform evolution across multiple teams.
- Own service health, reliability, scalability, observability, production readiness, incident response, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Establish secure coding, privacy, compliance, auditability, and data-governance practices for sensitive payroll, tax, financial, and personally identifiable information.
- Evaluate and introduce AI-assisted engineering, generative AI, agentic systems, and intelligent automation where they provide practical value.
- Lead complex initiatives, architecture and code reviews, technical experiments, and cross-team execution.
- Mentor engineers, develop technical leaders, lead knowledge-sharing activities, and support technical interviewing and hiring quality.
- Partner with product, architecture, compliance, customer support, SRE, and other engineering teams to connect technical decisions to customer and business outcomes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience designing and leading complex enterprise software systems.
- Deep expertise in .NET development and experience delivering scalable backend services, APIs, distributed systems, and enterprise applications.
- Strong knowledge of distributed-system architecture, design patterns, scalability, resiliency, concurrency, performance, data consistency, SQL, and data modeling.
- Hands-on experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure and distributed caching technologies such as Redis or Hazelcast.
- Strong experience with observability platforms including Grafana, Kibana, OpenTelemetry, or similar tools.
- Experience leading technically complex, multi-team initiatives, production incident resolution, root-cause analysis, and preventive improvements.
- Understanding of CI/CD, DevOps practices, production operations, service ownership, secure software development, and sensitive customer data handling.
- Hands-on experience applying AI-assisted development tools and workflows to engineering problems.
- Ability to mentor engineers, influence technical decisions across teams, develop strategy, exercise sound judgment in ambiguity, and communicate complex technical concepts.
- Preferred experience in payroll, tax, HR, fintech, compliance, financial systems, or other regulated domains.
- Preferred experience with high-volume transaction processing, cloud-native microservices, infrastructure as code, platform modernization, system migrations, performance engineering, resilient distributed-system patterns, AI agents, engineering automation, and technical thought leadership.
