Responsibilities
- Build internal tooling that improves database fleet management and developer efficiency.
- Monitor platform performance, improve observability, and investigate production issues before they affect users.
- Support the evolution of the database platform, including migration from self-managed SQL Server to Amazon RDS and transition toward PostgreSQL.
- Identify performance bottlenecks, support load balancing, and improve platform resilience.
- Integrate AI tools into engineering workflows to improve quality and productivity.
- Collaborate with engineering teams across Xero to help backend systems scale reliably.
Requirements
- Experience with .NET, C#, and AWS environments, or strong backend software engineering proficiency with a language-agnostic mindset.
- Practical knowledge of SQL Server, Amazon RDS, or PostgreSQL, with interest in expanding into platform engineering.
- Expertise building scalable backend tools, writing clean code, and automating manual processes.
- Strong understanding of system observability, database performance tuning, and responding to production issues.
- Ability to design resilient software solutions and use modern development tools, including AI tools, to optimize workflows.
- Collaborative approach with a passion for continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and mentoring peers.
