Responsibilities
- Own reliability and operational health for one or more Microsoft Substrate components or services.
- Participate as an actively engaged on-call engineer and independently respond to production incidents.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues with minimal supervision.
- Design and implement automation to reduce operational toil and improve service stability.
- Develop and maintain monitoring, alerting, telemetry, SLOs, and operational metrics.
- Lead post-incident reviews, perform root cause analysis, and implement durable fixes.
- Collaborate with software engineering teams to embed reliability and operability into service design.
- Write and maintain production-quality code and automation that improves reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field plus 2+ years of technical experience, or a master's degree plus 1+ year, or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required Microsoft, customer, and government security screenings, including a Tier 3 background investigation for GCCH and DoD environments and CJIS eligibility for GCCM environments.
- Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Preferred: master's degree plus 3+ years or bachelor's degree plus 5+ years of relevant technical experience, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: 2+ years of experience working with large-scale cloud or distributed systems.
Benefits
- Base pay is listed at USD $102,100-$202,200 per year nationally, with a separate USD $133,800-$219,200 per year range for specified San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area locations.
- Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
