Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, high-performance object-oriented backend services.
- Develop public REST APIs with Java and internal gRPC APIs for inter-service and inter-system communication.
- Lead system designs, design decisions, technology evaluations, and cross-team technical alignment.
- Build automated unit, integration, end-to-end, concurrency, load, and performance tests.
- Identify bottlenecks and technical debt and implement scalability, stability, monitoring, healing, and application-scaling improvements.
- Implement continuous integration and deployment automation to reduce time to market.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to define and implement features.
- Conduct code reviews, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and promote engineering best practices.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues, author root cause analyses, and drive lasting performance and reliability improvements.
- Maintain design documents, runbooks, change management documents, and readiness plans.
- Provide live-site support by monitoring production systems and resolving incidents.
- Lead cross-team projects as a single-threaded owner or technical lead and unblock other engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
- 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and problem solving.
- Expertise designing and developing internet-scale services with scalability, availability, security, and reliability considerations.
- Backend development proficiency with Java or C#, SpringBoot, RESTful APIs, OData, and SQL.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, empathetic mindset.
- Ability to use AI-enabled development tools such as Cursor AI, Kiro, and GitHub Copilot.
- Preferred: master’s degree in computer science or software engineering.
- Preferred: 8 years of software engineering experience.
- Preferred: experience with event-driven architecture, Kafka, card payments, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Preferred: awareness of API security and PCI DSS compliance requirements.
- Preferred: familiarity with iOS or Android development.
- Preferred: experience building and deploying AI solutions, production AI agents or copilots, multi-agent systems, distributed AI architectures, and vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, OpenSearch, or Milvus.
- Preferred: knowledge of AI evaluation techniques, safety practices, and responsible AI principles.
