Responsibilities
- Design and build advertising and marketing platform features that help eBay sellers and advertisers grow their businesses.
- Develop scalable, highly available backend applications, APIs, and services.
- Own complex features end to end, including technical design, architecture, deployment, and production support.
- Drive system design, architectural decisions, technical tradeoffs, and cross-team collaboration.
- Use AI-assisted development tools for coding, debugging, testing, and code review.
- Collaborate with ML engineers on LLM integrations, recommendation systems, and intelligent campaign optimization.
- Mentor team members and contribute to technical discussions and engineering best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field plus 9+ years of work experience, or a master’s degree plus 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong Java experience and experience building services with Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
- Experience building scalable backend systems and APIs in distributed environments.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Experience with relational or NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization.
- Familiarity with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Flink.
- Ability to own system design, lead design reviews, make architectural decisions, and evaluate distributed-system tradeoffs.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
- Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features, agentic workflows, or AI-driven automation in production is a plus.
- Experience with GraphQL and Federated GraphQL APIs is highly desirable.
- Open-source contribution experience is a plus.
