Responsibilities
- Design and implement the next generation of Astronomer’s production platform.
- Own systems for testing, building, and deploying code in a high-scale PaaS environment.
- Collaborate across the company on production-system design, technical standards, and technology choices.
- Build out the company’s Platform/Reliability practice and contribute to platform evolution.
- Participate in incident management and periodic on-call rotations for owned services.
- Define and improve sensible, reliable operational practices as the platform evolves.
- Create and maintain comprehensive internal documentation for systems and processes.
- Estimate work, coordinate with stakeholders, identify risks, and support successful delivery.
Requirements
- Strong experience designing and implementing non-abstract systems.
- Strong proficiency in Python and Golang.
- In-depth Kubernetes experience, with CKA certification or equivalent or greater experience.
- Experience with observability principles and technologies, including SLI/SLO definition and tracking.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in globally distributed-team environments.
- Passion for reliability and operational excellence, with a focus on reducing toil.
- Experience with software development practices including code review, testing, CI/CD, version control, automation, and debugging.
- A proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues with ownership and accountability.
- Preferred experience with SaaS/PaaS products across multiple cloud providers.
- Preferred experience with CircleCI, Chronosphere, Prometheus, Splunk, Bazel, Istio, Playwright, Karpenter, and GitHub Actions.
- Preferred experience with AWS, GCP, and Azure, particularly Azure.
- Preferred experience participating in an on-call rotation.
- Preferred experience with Apache Airflow.
