Responsibilities
- Own portions of the inventory and integrations platform end to end, supporting discovery, booking, payment, and fulfillment journeys.
- Design, build, and modernize services in Groupon’s microservices ecosystem.
- Strengthen platform abstractions, data models, and developer tooling.
- Integrate new third-party inventory and partners while making future integrations more reusable and efficient.
- Define metrics and alerting, investigate behavior across multiple services, and implement durable fixes.
- Participate in technical design discussions and influence architecture decisions.
- Mentor early-career engineers and improve code review and design quality.
- Participate in a shared on-call rotation and support the production systems owned by the team.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience building and operating production systems.
- Strong hands-on Java experience.
- Solid Computer Science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, design patterns, databases, and operating systems.
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including queries, indexes, and transactions at scale.
- Experience with systems where correctness matters and many operations happen concurrently.
- Ability to trace behavior across multiple systems to identify root causes.
- Clear written and verbal communication with engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Third-party API integration, e-commerce, ticketing, NoSQL, TypeScript, Node.js, or SOX/PCI compliance experience is useful.
- Familiarity with AI development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor is valuable.
