Java API Developer, Officer
State StreetResponsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, test, and support Java-based backend services and REST APIs.
- Implement reusable APIs according to internal requirements for design, security, versioning, documentation, and compliance.
- Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver API changes.
- Write unit and integration tests, participate in peer code reviews, and support release quality gates.
- Support troubleshooting and production readiness through logging, monitoring, defect triage, and minor performance tuning.
- Maintain technical documentation for API endpoints, payloads, dependencies, and operational procedures.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience developing Java backend applications and REST APIs in production or near-production environments.
- Familiarity with Java API frameworks and patterns such as Spring Boot or Spring MVC-style services.
- Understanding of secure API fundamentals, including authentication, authorization, and safe handling of sensitive data.
- Understanding of source control, code reviews, automated testing, software development lifecycle practices, and Agile delivery.
- Experience in financial services or another regulated environment where reliability, controls, and documentation are important.
- Awareness of enterprise API governance, publication, onboarding, and compliance standards is preferred.
- Experience with enterprise Java tools such as Maven and Jira-style workflows, along with basic observability practices, is preferred.
- Familiarity with digital asset concepts such as custody, tokenization, wallets, or blockchain-adjacent workflows is preferred.
- Exposure to third-party API integration patterns and API consumer documentation is preferred.
