Responsibilities
- Design and develop in-vehicle infotainment applications for GM systems.
- Own the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, system design, development, deployment, maintenance, validation, launch, and OTA delivery.
- Define unit, integration, UI, system, bench, and in-vehicle test coverage and maintain test automation.
- Apply modular Android architectures and collaborate with platform teams on AOSP and AAOS customization and integration.
- Diagnose issues across application, framework, and system layers and improve stability, performance, security, and developer efficiency.
- Contribute to architectural decisions involving system services, permissions, and security models.
- Lead code and design reviews, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and champion engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with UX, product, validation/QA, and platform/system engineering teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical/computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of Android development experience with production Android applications or Android-based embedded software, including AAOS or deeply embedded Android platforms.
- Expert Kotlin skills and strong proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java, Android SDK, and modern Android patterns such as coroutines/Flow, Jetpack, and MVVM.
- Deep knowledge of Android lifecycles, background work, concurrency, configuration changes, memory management, profiling, performance tuning, permissions, security, and system services.
- Experience designing, implementing, debugging, and shipping complex end-to-end features in large codebases.
- Experience optimizing performance on resource-constrained devices across UI, networking, I/O, and rendering.
- Experience with unit, UI, system, and integration testing, including JUnit, MockK/Mockito, Espresso, and UI Automator.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, and Git workflows in multi-team environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication and the ability to drive decisions across varied audiences.
- Preferred qualifications include 8+ years of Android development, VHAL and vehicle property API knowledge, familiarity with driver-distraction rules and in-vehicle HMI guidelines, and experience with long-lifecycle automotive, safety-critical, regulated, functional-safety, or cybersecurity systems.
- Preferred qualifications also include system-level debugging with logs and traces and demonstrated technical leadership in complex designs, mentorship, standards, patterns, and tooling.
