Base Salary
$117k - $146k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build robust, scalable backend systems and APIs across Segment’s data platform.
- Collaborate with design, product, architecture, and engineering teams to define solutions balancing usability, performance, and long-term architecture.
- Communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, customer impact, and team alignment clearly.
- Troubleshoot issues, improve system reliability, and refine operational tooling and processes.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for managed services.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience writing production-grade code in a modern programming language.
- Programming experience in Go, Java, Python, or similar languages.
- Experience operating large-scale distributed systems on cloud infrastructure such as Amazon Web Services.
- Hands-on experience with container orchestration frameworks such as Kubernetes, EKS, or ECS.
- Experience with large-scale asynchronous processing systems and shipping services using a CI/CD development paradigm.
- Strong understanding of scalable software engineering and effective written and verbal technical communication.
- Experience with event streaming technologies such as Kafka or Pulsar is desired.
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL and DynamoDB is desired.
- Exposure to observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog is desired.
- Experience working in a geographically distributed team is desired.
