Responsibilities
- Define the technical direction, architecture strategy, and long-term roadmap for Agoda’s Tax technology ecosystem.
- Own architecture for scalable, secure, resilient, observable, and adaptable tax platforms supporting global financial operations.
- Design solutions across internal systems, tax engines, APIs, data flows, and selected third-party platforms.
- Work hands-on with engineering teams on system design, proof-of-concepts, implementation trade-offs, and critical architecture components.
- Lead architectural reviews covering integration, reliability, maintainability, performance, and operational readiness.
- Translate tax rules, compliance requirements, and financial workflows into technical models and executable engineering plans.
- Assess the existing Tax technology landscape, identify risks and inefficiencies, and define modernization transition paths.
- Establish architecture principles, engineering standards, documentation, and governance practices.
- Mentor and influence senior engineers, Staff engineers, and technical leads across multiple teams.
- Communicate technical trade-offs to senior Finance, Product, Engineering, and Technology stakeholders.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, architecture, or technology leadership roles.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience delivering tax-related technology projects or closely related finance technology projects.
- Strong knowledge of VAT, GST, corporate tax, withholding tax, compliance workflows, tax calculation, reporting, reconciliation, and auditability.
- Experience shaping technical strategy and architecture roadmaps across multiple teams, systems, or business domains.
- Strong hands-on background in system design, APIs, data flows, integration patterns, reliability, observability, scalability, and operational trade-offs.
- Ability to translate complex business, finance, and regulatory requirements into architecture decisions and engineering plans.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with senior technical and business leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and influence senior engineers, Staff engineers, technical leads, and cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority.
- Experience with global tax platforms, tax engines such as Avalara, Vertex, or OneSource, or equivalent custom-built solutions is preferred.
- Experience with ERP systems, financial ledgers, invoicing, billing, reconciliation, event-driven architecture, streaming, or middleware integration is preferred.
- Experience with cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, Kubernetes/EKS, serverless platforms, or large-scale service-oriented architectures is preferred.
- Understanding of data privacy, auditability, financial controls, and frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA, or SOX is preferred.
