Responsibilities
- Own complex backend systems from design through production, including architecture, implementation, and long-term maintenance.
- Lead technical discussions, make engineering decisions, and document trade-offs.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pairing, and structured feedback.
- Identify and address systemic infrastructure weaknesses with minimal direction.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and data teams on technical direction and business goals.
- Improve observability, reliability, and performance across the backend stack.
- Participate in technical interviews and help define the engineering bar.
Requirements
- 7+ years of backend engineering experience with ownership of critical production systems.
- Deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot, with strong familiarity with Python.
- Experience designing distributed systems, including event-driven architecture, microservices, and data pipelines.
- Strong command of PostgreSQL and experience with cloud-native infrastructure on AWS.
- Experience navigating hypergrowth or large-scale engineering challenges.
- Ability to mentor engineers, shape requirements, and operate effectively in ambiguity.
