Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural evolution of core storage-engine components.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
- Lead cross-organizational initiatives for observability solutions and Elasticsearch logs and metrics capabilities.
- Drive operational and system improvements and bring architectural clarity across the platform.
- Act as a subject matter expert and trusted technical advisor while mentoring the wider engineering organization.
- Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with a global engineering community.
- Write idiomatic modern Java for Elasticsearch.
Requirements
- Strong core Java skills, including deep knowledge of concurrency primitives, data structures, and algorithms.
- Experience implementing efficient indexing, storage, and query techniques for time-series or logs data.
- Experience with one or more storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
- Ability to design and optimize high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems.
- Ability to collaborate across functions and teams, work autonomously, and drive decisions in a distributed environment.
- Proven ability to use AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while retaining ownership of outcomes.
- Experience leveraging AI agents with sound engineering judgment and prompt-engineering practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with Elasticsearch, open source projects, source-control workflows, continuous integration, data-storage technology, or database, search-engine, operating-system, or cloud-service development is a bonus.
- Experience designing, leading, and owning cross-functional initiatives is a bonus.
