Responsibilities
- Interface with customers, product management, and hardware engineers to define new Layer 1 features.
- Architect, design, develop, debug, and maintain Layer 1 software features.
- Develop features using C, C++, and Python and contribute to functional and design specifications.
- Build automated tests and test infrastructure for Layer 1 features.
- Work with hardware and manufacturing teams to bring PHYs, transceivers, and other Layer 1 components to market.
- Design software control interfaces for managing Layer 1 hardware components.
- Build instrumentation and telemetry tools for monitoring physical link health.
- Provide technical leadership across features, projects, and tools.
- Analyze and resolve issues found in system testing and customer networks.
- Mentor new and junior engineers.
Requirements
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 8 years of experience; or MS in one of these fields plus 6 years; or PhD plus 3 years; or equivalent work experience.
- Expert knowledge of C or C++ and Python.
- Knowledge of UNIX or Linux.
- Applied understanding of software engineering principles.
- Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to design solutions and implement features independently.
- Ability to work in small teams.
- Knowledge of digital communication technologies such as modulation and signal encoding schemes is preferred.
- Understanding of IP networking or distributed systems is preferred.
- Experience with low-level hardware components is preferred.
