Responsibilities
- Drive end-to-end design and development of enterprise applications using RPGLE, COBOL 400, and AS400 COBOL.
- Analyze and modernize AS400 applications and DB2 400 database structures to improve maintainability and performance.
- Optimize DB2 400 queries, data models, and database access patterns for high-volume transaction processing.
- Review and refactor RPGLE and COBOL 400 code and create technical specifications and program documentation.
- Perform unit, system, and regression testing and coordinate defect triage and root cause analysis for production incidents.
- Coordinate deployments of AS400 programs and DB2 400 objects with infrastructure and operations teams.
- Monitor application and database performance and propose capacity and technical improvements.
- Mentor less experienced engineers through code reviews and practical AS400 development guidance.
- Ensure secure coding practices and regulatory requirements are followed.
- Coordinate onsite and remote work schedules in the hybrid delivery model.
Requirements
- Eight to twelve years of progressive enterprise application development experience focused on RPGLE, COBOL 400, DB2 400, and AS400 platforms.
- Advanced proficiency designing, coding, testing, and debugging RPGLE and COBOL 400 programs for transactional and batch workloads.
- Working knowledge of DB2 400 design, normalization, indexing, and query optimization.
- Experience analyzing, refactoring, and modernizing legacy AS400 applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing performance issues and production incidents in AS400 and DB2 400 environments.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams in a hybrid work environment.
- Ability to adapt to tools and methodologies relevant to IBM i platform development.
