Lead AI Engineer
Capital OneResponsibilities
- Lead and deliver ML and NLP solutions in production environments.
- Design and implement retrieval-augmented generation pipelines covering chunking, embedding, retrieval, and re-ranking.
- Build, orchestrate, and evaluate AI agents with tool use and multi-step reasoning.
- Train, fine-tune, and serve embedding and transformer-based models for search, classification, extraction, summarization, and generation.
- Own productionization of ML and AI systems, including serving, monitoring, reliability, and drift management.
- Optimize token usage and context windows for cost and performance.
- Drive technical direction, AI engineering vision, and MLOps strategy, including standardized deployment, monitoring, and automated retraining frameworks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
- At least 8 years of experience with traditional machine learning algorithms, advanced NLP, model selection, experimentation, and evaluation.
- At least 5 years of experience engineering and deploying production ML and AI systems, including high-throughput serving, ML continuous integration and delivery, latency optimization, and drift monitoring.
- At least 3 years of experience with PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, and LangGraph for deep learning and agentic workflows.
- At least 3 years of experience developing, fine-tuning, and serving embedding models using sentence-transformers and modern representation learning stacks.
- At least 2 years of experience developing LLM applications involving prompt engineering, model chaining, and external tool integration.
- Preferred master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
- Preferred experience with statistics, probability, experimental design, hypothesis testing, A/B testing, causal inference, agentic search, multi-step query planning, retrieval optimization, LoRA, QLoRA, PEFT, RAGAS, DeepEval, BERT, GPT, Llama, Mistral, CrewAI, Claude Code, and OpenAI Codex.
