Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate core components of the Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
- Improve concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
- Maintain cluster coordination while nodes join, leave, and data moves across the cluster.
- Increase the scale of Elasticsearch in supported shards, nodes, and petabytes.
- Investigate and resolve complex performance, concurrency, and stability issues end to end.
- Support support engineers with difficult technical problems.
- Own projects from technical design through implementation and delivery.
- Manage projects involving multiple engineers and collaborate across teams.
Requirements
- Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
- Strong core Java skills, including data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer language features.
- Deep technical proficiency in algorithms.
- Experience building large-scale distributed systems rather than only using off-the-shelf services.
- Experience building and debugging complex, broadly impactful features running across multiple machines.
- Ability to own projects from beginning to end and collaborate on required components.
- Experience managing projects involving multiple engineers.
- Proven ability to use AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while retaining ownership of outcomes.
- Ability to collaborate across functions, teams, projects, and codebases.
- Ability to work autonomously and drive decisions and results in a distributed team.
- Bonus: experience with data stores, search, analytics, or Lucene.
- Bonus: strong knowledge of the JDK.
- Bonus: familiarity with asynchronous event-driven network frameworks such as Netty.
