Responsibilities

  • Own architectural direction across a significant portion of the HCM charter, spanning multiple teams and services.
  • Define service boundaries, integration contracts, technical strategies, and modernization or re-platforming plans.
  • Architect AI-powered and agentic product capabilities, including shared services, retrieval and context patterns, orchestration, evaluation infrastructure, guardrails, and observability.
  • Improve the charter’s AI engineering practices through internal tooling, standards, forums, and measurable workflows.
  • Drive reliability, latency, security, privacy, data governance, compliance, and operational-toil improvements across teams.
  • Lead through influence by mentoring engineers, conducting design reviews, resolving cross-team technical problems, and aligning engineering, product, and design leadership.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for customer-impacting incidents and drive root-cause resolution.
  • Remain hands-on through prototypes, reference implementations, foundational components, and critical-path engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale.
  • Demonstrated Staff-level or equivalent experience setting technical direction across multiple teams.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems, service architecture, API design, and relational and non-relational data modeling.
  • Production experience with a backend language such as Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, Ruby, or Node.js and working knowledge of a modern front-end framework, ideally React.
  • Extensive experience with cloud infrastructure, containerization, orchestration, and CI/CD at scale.
  • Substantive production experience building AI systems such as LLM-backed features, retrieval-augmented architectures, or agentic workflows, including quality and operational ownership.
  • Experience leading large technical initiatives through influence, producing decision-driving technical documents, and mentoring senior engineers.
  • Preferred experience includes HR technology, payroll, workforce management, fintech, rules engines, ledger-style systems, complex workflow platforms, live-system modernization, shared AI platforms, front-end architecture, and privacy or employment compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, GDPR, PIPEDA, and CCPA.
