Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimize highly scalable, event-driven microservices for real-time customer communications, personalized promotions, and targeted campaign delivery.
  • Define future architecture and balance new technology investments with operational improvements to existing systems.
  • Write secure, stable, testable, maintainable Java code and deliver software enhancements on schedule.
  • Own parts of the product and technology, become a subject matter expert, and resolve complex problems and defects.
  • Lead projects, participate in design, scoping, prioritization, code review, planning, and support ticket discussions.
  • Coach and mentor software engineers, contribute to colleagues’ professional development, and improve engineering practices.
  • Understand data storage, classification, optimization, runtime properties, dependencies, and infrastructure characteristics.
  • Participate in the on-call support rotation and document software for future developers.

Requirements

  • A degree in Computer Science or a related software engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong backend experience with Java and strong experience with AWS and cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Experience with Terraform and DevOps concepts, event streaming technologies such as SNS, SQS, or Kafka, and high-volume systems.
  • Understanding of relational and non-relational databases, messaging queues, concurrency, modern architectures, design patterns, and platform nuances.
  • Understanding of Docker and Kubernetes, plus expert experience with testing concepts, test tools, and integrating testing best practices into the software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to work in an Agile, fast-paced environment with strong ownership, urgency, drive, and adaptability.
