Responsibilities
- Build and maintain reusable accounting records, rules, mappings, and versioned APIs for internal product teams and external partners.
- Own ERP integrations with NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, SAP, and Oracle, including synchronization, error recovery, and rate-limit handling.
- Implement customer-facing accounting workflows in a React and TypeScript dashboard.
- Design distributed systems emphasizing idempotency, reconciliation, traceability, correctness, and proactive issue detection.
- Own work end-to-end across user experience, API design, data models, scalability, and observability.
- Integrate production ML predictions for general-ledger coding and mappings while preserving explainability and human review.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, and Implementation teams.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and maintain operational standards for mission-critical systems.
- Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards through technical reviews.
Requirements
- 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience focused on backend development.
- 2+ years building systems where correctness and reliability were core requirements, such as fintech, payments, financial systems, healthcare, legal, or another regulated industry.
- Experience designing APIs, data models, and platform capabilities for varied customer workflows and configurations.
- Proficiency with backend technologies such as Kotlin, Java, or TypeScript, and comfort with Kotlin and Micronaut.
- Experience architecting, developing, and testing full-stack applications end-to-end.
- Comfort with databases such as PostgreSQL, event streaming such as Kafka, and distributed systems.
- Strong engineering standards around code quality, testing, observability, and operational excellence, with a record of review and mentorship.
- Strong written and verbal English communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Preferred experience with accounting systems or ERPs including NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, SAP, or Oracle.
- Preferred familiarity with monthly close, general ledger coding, reconciliation, or double-entry bookkeeping.
- Preferred experience building third-party integrations at scale, including partner API limits, schema drift, and asynchronous failure recovery.
- Preferred experience shipping ML- or LLM-powered product features with explainability and human review.
- Preferred experience with platform or API products consumed by engineering teams or external developers.
- Preferred experience leading technical design across multiple teams or mentoring engineers as a formal or informal tech lead.
