Responsibilities
- Evaluate database architectures and recommend improvements for performance and availability.
- Design, administer, monitor, and optimize databases, including schemas, partitions, views, queries, replication, backups, and recovery systems.
- Respond to database outages, triage production issues, and remediate database-related incidents.
- Make database product, design, modeling, and architecture decisions for AWS and GCP.
- Develop business continuity infrastructure covering compute, networking, storage, backups, and database recovery.
- Automate infrastructure deployment with Terraform and establish reusable database architectures for new installations.
- Support engineering efforts across agile scrum and kanban teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on database engineering experience, preferably with PostgreSQL.
- 5+ years of experience working in an AWS or GCP cloud environment.
- 3+ years of high-level programming experience in Python or Go.
- Experience with Kubernetes operators, specifically Zalando and CNPG.
- Experience with Kafka, ETLs, CDC, database monitoring, and database architecture.
- Strong Kubernetes production experience.
- Experience supporting applications subject to compliance audits.
- Experience handling and remediating production support issues in a timely manner.
- Experience building infrastructure as code, preferably with Terraform.
