Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and PostgreSQL.
- Set public API standards using RESTful APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger, and OAuth2.
- Build SDKs, reference implementations, and developer tools for partner integrations.
- Provide technical leadership through code reviews, domain modeling, engineering best practices, and mentoring junior engineers.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Implementation Managers, Solutions Engineers, and partner development teams to define features and technical solutions.
- Help engineering teams across Wise align with API standards and architecture patterns.
- Collaborate with global engineering hubs, including travel to the Tallinn office.
Requirements
- Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining production-grade public APIs using RESTful APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger, and OAuth2.
- Extensive experience with Java and Spring Boot for resilient backend microservices.
- Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture and messaging systems such as Kafka, plus relational database design and optimization with PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Proficiency in domain-driven design, microservices patterns, and building highly available, low-latency systems.
- Customer-centric product mindset balancing technical quality, business context, user experience, and cost efficiency.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across business units.
- Experience with financial-grade security standards, compliance, international payment systems, open-source developer libraries, SDKs, developer portals, frontend frameworks, or infrastructure/gateway tooling is preferred.
Benefits
- Starting salary of £87,500–£111,000 GBP plus RSUs.
