Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and PostgreSQL.
- Set standards for RESTful APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger, and OAuth2 while building developer tools, SDKs, and reference implementations.
- Champion engineering practices, conduct code reviews, participate in domain modeling, and mentor junior engineers.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Implementation Managers, Solutions Engineers, and partner development teams on features and technical solutions.
- Help engineering teams across Wise align with API standards and architecture patterns.
- Collaborate with global engineering hubs, including travel to the Tallinn office.
Requirements
- Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining production-grade public APIs using RESTful APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger, and OAuth2.
- Extensive experience with Java and Spring Boot for resilient backend microservices.
- Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture and relational database design and optimization using technologies such as Kafka, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
- Proficiency in domain-driven design, microservices patterns, high availability, and low-latency systems.
- Customer-centric product mindset balancing technical quality, business context, user experience, and cost efficiency.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts, collaborate across business units, and adapt to feedback.
- Preferred: experience with financial-grade security, compliance, international payments, frontend frameworks, infrastructure or gateway tooling, open-source developer libraries, SDKs, or developer portals.
Benefits
- Starting salary is GBP 87,500–111,000 plus RSUs.
