Responsibilities
- Design and architect scalable cloud infrastructure and develop standardized Terraform infrastructure-as-code solutions.
- Build, optimize, and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment and support DevOps and DevSecOps practices.
- Operate and evolve GCP data platform services including BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Dataproc, and Pub/Sub.
- Design IAM and service-account access controls using least-privilege principles and improve the platform security posture.
- Lead incident response and root-cause analysis, participate in the platform on-call rota, and reduce recurring issues.
- Develop and maintain the Internal Developer Platform, including catalog entries, scaffolder templates, and TechDocs.
- Onboard data engineering and ML engineering services and pipelines into the platform catalog with accurate ownership and metadata.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code for infrastructure authoring, code review, and documentation, and share effective AI practices.
- Work with technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements, explain trade-offs, and drive platform improvements.
Requirements
- 8+ years of cloud infrastructure engineering experience designing and administering complex GCP platforms.
- Production-scale experience with Google Cloud Platform services including BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, Cloud Storage, and Pub/Sub.
- Hands-on Terraform experience with multi-environment configuration management across cloud providers.
- Experience designing GCP networking, including VPC, VPC Service Controls, and Direct Connect, plus IaaS/PaaS architecture patterns.
- Experience building and maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines, runners, and merge request workflows.
- Strong knowledge of Cloud IAM, access-control design, least-privilege principles, and security best practices.
- Experience working as a platform provider with data or ML engineering teams and making infrastructure usable.
- A consultative approach and ability to collaborate with non-technical stakeholders, interpret requirements, challenge assumptions, and influence outcomes.
- AWS exposure is preferred.
- Backstage experience with software catalogs, scaffolder templates, or plugin development is preferred.
- Familiarity with medallion architecture, lakehouse patterns, Airflow, or dbt is preferred.
- Exposure to Databricks is preferred.
- Professional experience with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor is preferred.
- Experience in regulated financial services environments is preferred.
