Responsibilities
- Design, build, deploy, and operate production systems focused on scalability, reliability, observability, performance, and security.
- Develop automation to reduce operational toil and improve production efficiency.
- Monitor production systems, create alerting strategies, and implement automated incident response.
- Create incident response runbooks, conduct postmortems, and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with software engineering teams to resolve infrastructure bottlenecks and improve deployment workflows.
- Manage monitoring infrastructure and maintain visibility across systems.
- Plan and execute production maintenance windows with minimal service disruption.
- Triage infrastructure and platform issues and coordinate with vendors and support teams.
- Deploy systems and updates through staged, risk-managed rollouts.
- Communicate system status, maintenance plans, and infrastructure improvements to stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent professional experience with 5+ years in a related infrastructure or systems role.
- Proficiency in Go, Python, or Bash shell scripting for medium-complexity automation workflows.
- Strong Linux or UNIX administration and debugging skills.
- Hands-on experience operating software systems, infrastructure, and complex applications at production scale.
- Expertise in infrastructure-as-code principles and practices.
- Experience with server provisioning, including storage and networking.
- Experience with incident response, postmortem analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Preferred experience with Kubernetes, Docker, virtualization, Prometheus, Grafana, GitLab, Spinnaker, Terraform, PostgreSQL, Docker registries, and cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of distributed systems, performance tuning, infrastructure security, and systems design.
- On-call support experience and comfort with incident response responsibilities.
