Responsibilities
- Define and maintain backend technical architecture across Payments Core, Merchant, or Consumer platform areas.
- Design domain boundaries, event contracts, state machine patterns, data consistency models, and cross-service APIs across multiple teams.
- Author Architecture Decision Records, RFCs, and design documentation with clear trade-off analysis.
- Evaluate database, cloud-service, message-broker, and consistency-model choices for financial data.
- Own the evolution of the agentic development harness, including instrumentation, adoption measurement, and data-driven improvements.
- Drive organization-wide technical changes and adoption of engineering patterns without direct authority.
- Provide technical input into product strategy and mentor Staff-track engineers through design reviews, pairing, and technical writing feedback.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years of cross-team technical leadership or architecture authority.
- 3+ years designing distributed payments or fintech systems.
- Hands-on experience with multiple technology stacks and strong backend expertise.
- Strong grounding in distributed systems architecture, including event sourcing, CQRS, domain events, saga patterns, and state-machine or financial-entity lifecycle design.
- Experience designing REST, asynchronous, and event-based APIs at service boundaries.
- Experience evaluating relational, time-series, document, and ledger-style database trade-offs and AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud architectures.
- Experience designing or evolving an agentic engineering harness, including instrumentation, adoption measurement, and iteration.
- Working knowledge of LLM tool-use patterns and context management in engineering workflows.
- Excellent technical writing skills for ADRs, RFCs, and design documents for multiple audiences.
- English proficiency at B2 level or above.
- Preferred qualifications include platform or internal developer tooling experience, agentic or LLM system design, BNPL or lending architecture, PCI DSS or PSD2 compliance architecture, Kafka or equivalent streaming architecture, open-source contributions, technical publishing, and Polish language skills.
