Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional projects by defining and designing systems, building proofs of concept, and delivering APIs, data processing, automation, and new service functionality.
- Develop and maintain backend services, web applications, hosted tools, and systems for the 9fin platform.
- Serve as a senior individual contributor by leading systems design and infrastructure discussions, running code reviews, mentoring developers, and contributing to research and experimentation.
- Improve the codebase through automation, refactoring, documentation, and testable and maintainable implementation.
- Design data flows from persistent storage through API endpoints with appropriate validation and industry practices.
- Collaborate with Product, Clients, financial, legal, editorial, and engineering colleagues to deliver projects and explain complex technical work.
- Contribute to developer experience through managed preview environments, feature flags, and maintained non-production environments.
Requirements
- Experience operating as a senior individual-contributor engineer, including systems design, infrastructure discussions, mentoring, and work scoping within cross-functional product teams.
- Ability to plan and reason about software clearly and communicate its purpose and business impact.
- Hands-on experience designing data flows from persistent storage to API endpoints and applying validation best practices.
- Experience with Python and web frameworks, particularly FastAPI, strong typing, and Pydantic.
- Strong experience delivering APIs and working with service-oriented architecture.
- Strong working knowledge of SQL statements for retrieving data.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with engineering and cross-functional colleagues.
- Experience writing testable, maintainable code and participating in code reviews.
- Experience with data modeling and a pipeline orchestrator is preferred.
