Responsibilities
- Develop, modify, maintain, and enhance software applications supporting test and simulation systems.
- Lead or perform complex software defect investigation, root-cause analysis, fault resolution, and technical assessment.
- Design and implement approved software changes, conduct code and peer reviews, and support technical reviews.
- Integrate software across hardware interfaces, operating systems, networks, and external systems.
- Plan and perform unit, integration, regression, and defect-verification testing and produce objective test evidence and formal reports.
- Maintain traceability across requirements, defects, changes, source code, tests, releases, and controlled documentation.
- Apply configuration-management and version-control processes, generate controlled builds, and prepare release candidates and deployment materials.
- Investigate issues in operational or representative environments and support authorised deployment, post-deployment testing, transition, and knowledge transfer.
- Provide progress reporting, estimates, risk and issue escalation, and technical recommendations within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Participate in sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and formal engineering-governance and security processes.
Requirements
- Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related STEM discipline, or equivalent practical software-engineering experience supported by relevant expertise and delivery evidence.
- Demonstrable software-development experience using Ada 95.
- Experience using C++ and/or C# and maintaining or enhancing operational, deployed, or long-life software systems.
- Experience with complex defect investigation, structured root-cause analysis, approved software changes, code reviews, testing, controlled builds, releases, and technical documentation.
- Experience working under formal change-control, configuration-management, security, and engineering-governance arrangements.
- Experience integrating software with hardware interfaces, operating systems, networks, or external systems and working with mixed-language software baselines.
- Experience communicating technical findings, estimates, risks, dependencies, and recommendations to engineering stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Linux operating environments.
- Experience with Jira, Teamcenter, Microsoft Active Directory-integrated environments, IP networking, PXE, Symantec Ghost, infrastructure upgrades, or deployed computing environments is desirable.
- Experience with test and simulation, defence, maritime, training, synthetic-environment, assurance, or technical-authority systems is desirable.
- Continued professional development and professional registration or progress toward registration are desirable.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance (SC), eligible to work in the United Kingdom, willing to work in secure defence facilities and travel occasionally, and capable of supporting deployed-system operations and maintenance.
