Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Build and ship Claude Design’s core surfaces, including the design canvas, real-time editing, inline comments, and live adjustment controls.
- Translate frontier research and generation capabilities into intuitive, high-craft design experiences.
- Gather feedback from designers, internal users, external partners, and researchers, and rapidly iterate on product concepts.
- Set technical direction for editor and canvas architecture, real-time collaboration, design-system inference, rich import/export, and scalability.
- Design and run user and generation-quality experiments to evaluate product hypotheses.
- Own standards for visual quality, latency, responsiveness, reliability, and user experience.
- Improve the handoff from Claude Design to Claude Code and provide feedback to research teams on model effectiveness.
- Shape the roadmap, make architecture decisions, and mentor engineers while remaining hands-on.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience building full-stack applications with deep frontend expertise.
- Track record of zero-to-one work in startup or startup-like environments.
- Experience setting technical direction and mentoring engineers while writing production code.
- Strong design sensibility and attention to interaction details, motion, and product polish.
- Strong skills across modern web stacks, including React, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, or Go, plus client-side state, performance, APIs, databases, and cloud technologies.
- Ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and make pragmatic decisions in a fast-moving environment.
- User-centric approach with the ability to validate ideas through research and evidence.
- Ability to communicate effectively and translate complex AI capabilities into intuitive user experiences.
- Commitment to considering the societal impacts and ethics of the work.
- Preferred: experience building visual collaboration or creative tools such as Figma, Canva, or Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Preferred: experience with UI/UX for AI-powered applications and close collaboration with designers.
- Preferred: experience conducting user research, interviews, and usability testing.
- Preferred: expertise in canvas rendering, complex editor interfaces, design-system tooling, graphics, WebGL, shaders, 3D, or animation.
- Preferred: experience with real-time collaborative applications, multiplayer editing, WebSockets, or high-performance frontend interactions.
- Formal certifications, education credentials, and direct machine learning or AI research experience are not required.

- Annual compensation range of $320,000–$485,000 USD.
- Hybrid policy requiring staff to work from an office at least 25% of the time, with some roles requiring more office time.
