Base Salary
$163k - $247k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, launch, and operate Gusto products in the Time domain.
- Write frontend code and design and build reliable backend APIs.
- Own features across specification, design, launch, and long-term iteration.
- Lead multi-quarter projects addressing complex engineering problems and measurable customer impact.
- Work on large-scale refactors, performance improvements, and reliability issues.
- Mentor engineers and help them maximize their performance and impact.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Data, Design, and Platform Engineering teams.
- Use AI tools and experiment with emerging AI frameworks to accelerate development, improve testing, and deliver product capabilities.
Requirements
- Typically 8+ years of software development experience.
- Experience building scalable solutions that address customer pain and create memorable customer experiences.
- Experience leveraging AI tools or systems for development, testing, and product delivery.
- Curiosity and experimentation with emerging AI frameworks, including evaluating and scaling AI use safely.
- Experience owning complex, multi-quarter engineering projects with measurable impact at scale.
- Experience with large-scale refactors, performance and reliability issues, and end-to-end product ownership.
- Ability to mentor engineers.
- Experience with or interest in Ruby on Rails.
- Ability to build well-structured, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Ability to communicate effectively across engineering teams and with business stakeholders.
- Appreciation for a collaborative, test-driven environment.
