Pure Storage9 hours ago
Responsibilities
- Own the technical vision and multi-year architecture for build orchestration, build systems, and containerized build environments.
- Lead architectural decisions involving build-system selection and migration, remote execution, caching, hermeticity, reproducibility, and developer tradeoffs.
- Improve build speed, reliability, reproducibility, debuggability, and usability across local development and CI workflows.
- Solve large-scale C/C++ build challenges involving dependency graphs, linking, toolchains, sysroots, and incremental correctness.
- Define standards and lifecycle practices for consistent, isolated, and reproducible containerized build environments.
- Set operational excellence standards for build infrastructure, including observability, incident response, change management, and capacity planning.
- Partner with engineering management and leaders on roadmaps, migrations, shared standards, and platform investment decisions.
- Establish engineering metrics for developer experience and use them to demonstrate impact and justify investment.
- Mentor engineers, review designs, raise technical standards, and represent the team in technical forums and design reviews.
Requirements
- Significant software engineering experience in infrastructure, developer productivity, build systems, or platform engineering.
- Experience setting technical direction for platforms used by multiple engineering teams and leading multi-team or multi-quarter initiatives.
- Deep expertise in modern build systems, dependency management, build-graph correctness, incremental and reproducible builds, remote execution, caching, artifact generation, and build isolation.
- Hands-on experience with build systems and toolchains such as Make, CMake, Buck, Bazel, or custom build orchestration tools, including production migrations or evolution.
- Deep experience with large-scale C/C++ builds, dependency pruning, static and dynamic linking, toolchain management, and reproducible containerized builds.
- Strong command of Linux-based development environments and Docker, including maintaining consistent build images and execution environments at scale.
- Experience designing and operating CI pipelines and integrating build tooling into continuous integration workflows.
- Experience using engineering metrics to improve build performance, reliability, and developer experience.
- Excellent communication, written design, cross-organizational influence, and mentoring skills.
Benefits
- Primarily in-office work at the Santa Clara office, except during PTO, work travel, or approved leave.
- Flexible time off, wellness resources, and company-sponsored team events.
- Growth and development support, employee resource groups, and an inclusive workplace.
