Responsibilities
- Design and own highly available, fault-tolerant, and scalable architecture for AI-powered features across the Mercury and Hamster teams.
- Diagnose failures in LLM-based systems, apply appropriate reliability patterns, and quantify the cost and reliability of AI-powered features.
- Build reproducible evaluation harnesses and reusable tooling for AI-powered engineering practices.
- Mentor engineers across two teams and provide cross-team technical leadership on architecture and code quality.
- Lead incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
- Contribute to hiring and interview processes and improve how the organization builds and evaluates AI-powered features.
Requirements
- Strong track record owning highly available, fault-tolerant, and scalable system architecture at Staff level or clear readiness for Staff level.
- Very strong daily professional use of AI coding tools as a core part of software development.
- Fluency building reliable systems on top of stochastic, LLM-based systems, including failure diagnosis, cost and reliability measurement, and reproducible evaluation harnesses.
- Ability to mentor engineers, influence architecture across teams, and quickly ramp up in unfamiliar stacks or environments.
- Curiosity, growth mindset, and active engagement with evolving AI tooling.
