Responsibilities
- Lead investigation and resolution of complex Java performance issues across application, JVM, middleware, database, operating-system, infrastructure, and external-dependency layers.
- Analyze JVM and application behavior, including memory, garbage collection, threading, concurrency, CPU usage, connection management, latency, throughput, and application-server configuration.
- Use profiling, observability, thread dumps, heap dumps, database analysis, and diagnostic techniques to identify root causes and recommend performance improvements.
- Evaluate application architectures and design scalable, maintainable, high-performing Java solutions across traditional, distributed, cloud, and modernized environments.
- Lead client and internal technical discovery sessions, architecture workshops, performance assessments, and solution-design discussions.
- Present technical findings, architecture recommendations, root-cause analyses, remediation plans, and implementation roadmaps while serving as a senior technical escalation point.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of experience designing, developing, troubleshooting, and architecting complex enterprise applications, including experience in a senior architecture, principal engineering, or technical leadership role.
- Deep hands-on experience with Java and JVM performance optimization, including memory management, garbage collection, threading, concurrency, heap and thread analysis, JVM tuning, profiling, latency, and throughput.
- Experience with enterprise Java frameworks and application servers such as Spring, Spring Boot, WebSphere, WebLogic, JBoss/WildFly, Tomcat, or Open Liberty.
- Experience diagnosing production performance issues across application code, JVM, middleware, database, operating-system, infrastructure, and network dependencies.
- Experience with application performance monitoring, observability, and diagnostic tools such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, New Relic, Datadog, Splunk, Java Flight Recorder, Java Mission Control, or VisualVM.
- Strong understanding of database performance, scalability, capacity planning, resource utilization, and application-to-database interactions.
- Strong client-facing communication, technical documentation, presentation, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Preferred experience includes high-volume, low-latency, transaction-intensive, or mission-critical Java applications; distributed systems; microservices; APIs; cloud platforms; Docker; Kubernetes; hybrid-cloud architectures; performance and load testing; enterprise databases; application modernization; DevOps; SRE; production support; and consulting or professional services delivery.
