Base Salary
$140k - $220k/yr
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain scalable Java and Kotlin software applications for the Backup Engineering team.
- Implement design patterns and ship enterprise-scale software running across millions of endpoints.
- Debug and profile production Java services using New Relic and structured log analysis.
- Design and optimize relational database schemas, queries, indexes, query plans, and storage efficiency.
- Conduct code reviews and contribute to architecture discussions and technical decisions.
- Mentor engineers through knowledge sharing, feedback, and coaching.
- Document system architecture, design tradeoffs, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with backend, infrastructure, product, and support teams on reliability, integrations, and platform improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of Java software development experience for product applications or equivalent.
- 6+ years of experience designing and operating highly scalable software systems.
- Expertise in Kotlin, object-oriented design principles, scalable data structures, and high-performance systems.
- Knowledge of API best practices and REST service development using Jersey or Spring.
- Experience with relational database design, development, query tuning, index design, and schema optimization at scale.
- Experience with client-server development, event-driven architectures, and message brokers such as RabbitMQ, Amazon SQS, or SNS.
- Experience with caching systems; Redis experience is a strong plus.
- Expertise in software quality testing practices and strong debugging and problem-solving skills across distributed systems.
- Strong Linux and scripting fundamentals, with familiarity using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants and LLM-based tools is a preferred qualification.
