Principal Software Engineer, Data Platform
Toast, Inc.Responsibilities
- Work hands-on with Apache Spark, Apache Iceberg, and streaming infrastructure to diagnose performance and build scalable systems.
- Contribute to technical strategy and architectural decisions for critical data platform initiatives.
- Design and evolve self-service platform APIs and developer-facing abstractions.
- Influence adjacent teams and align engineering, product, and leadership stakeholders.
- Mentor engineers and improve engineering practices across the organization.
- Use AI tooling in daily work and help the team use it effectively.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with meaningful data platform or distributed systems experience.
- Deep expertise in Apache Spark and Apache Iceberg.
- Strong experience with streaming infrastructure such as Apache Kafka or Apache Pulsar and cloud-native data platforms on AWS.
- Experience designing internal platforms and developer-facing abstractions.
- Ability to drive technical alignment across multi-team environments and communicate architectural changes effectively.
- Databricks experience is a bonus.
