Base Salary
$115k - $191k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the team's technical outcomes, including code quality, reliability, maintainability, security, and technical execution.
- Lead technical direction and design for the team's domain and drive moderately scoped solutions from definition through implementation and delivery.
- Mentor engineers, provide actionable technical feedback, and raise the team's engineering standards and capabilities.
- Use AI tools and automation to improve engineering workflows, increase team leverage, improve quality, and accelerate delivery.
- Identify and address technical debt, architectural risks, performance concerns, and reliability issues.
- Diagnose complex technical problems using debugging, observability, and system-level knowledge.
- Build quality into development through automated testing, code review, observability, and continuous feedback.
- Partner with Product, QA, Engineering, Staff Engineers, and architects on technical decisions and delivery.
Requirements
- Strong recent experience building and shipping production software as a hands-on engineer.
- Deep proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript across the stack, including Node.js, Express, and React.
- Strong experience with relational data modeling, SQL, PostgreSQL, asynchronous programming, automated testing, production debugging, and observability.
- Experience incrementally modernizing legacy systems while a live product remains in operation.
- Experience building and operating system integrations and data synchronization with attention to correctness, idempotency, and conflict handling.
- Experience serving as a senior technical engineer or technical lead and influencing technical direction without formal management authority.
- Hands-on experience using AI development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools for coding, debugging, research, code analysis, and problem-solving.
- Track record of mentoring engineers and communicating technical decisions with Engineering, Product, QA, and other partners.
- Preferred experience includes Java or another JVM stack, AngularJS, AWS, LaunchDarkly, OpenFeature, Playwright, Jest, multi-tenant SaaS, CRM, nonprofit, or volunteer management systems.
