Base Salary

$210k - $314k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Own backend services for printer identity, connectivity, provisioning, updates, and telemetry, ensuring resilience and high availability as the fleet grows.
  • Design and improve printer Linux bring-up, installation, in-field operating-system updates, and rollbacks.
  • Design reliable cloud-to-printer protocols and connections that handle flaky networks, restrictive firewalls, long offline periods, latency, back-pressure, and retries.
  • Lead substantial backend initiatives from design through production rollout on real printers and influence the long-term cloud-to-device platform architecture.
  • Participate in on-call, incident response, and postmortems while converting recurring operational issues into permanent fixes.
  • Provide technical leadership across backend, infrastructure, and device teams through architecture, design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience building and operating production backend services and driving major initiatives end to end.
  • Deep Linux expertise covering processes, filesystems, networking, systemd, boot and init, package management, users, and permissions.
  • Strong networking knowledge including TCP/IP, TLS, DNS, HTTP, WebSockets, NAT, and firewall traversal.
  • Hands-on experience installing, imaging, updating, and rolling back Linux systems in the field, including A/B update strategies or similar patterns.
  • Expert proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, Node/TypeScript, C++, or a similar modern backend language, with the ability to work in others.
  • Production experience with failure modes, blast radius, observability, upgrade paths, and on-call operations.
  • Strong communication, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Preferred experience includes IoT or connected-device backends at scale, MQTT or similar pub/sub protocols, fleet management, remote diagnostics, OTA update systems, edge compute, embedded Linux distributions, hardware bring-up, and Bazel or another polyglot monorepo build system.
