Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and lead production-grade data engineering applications across agile teams.
  • Build scalable ELT/ETL and 24x7 real-time event-streaming pipelines using Ab Initio, Spark Streaming, Kafka, AWS MSK, and Confluent Kafka.
  • Own high-throughput, low-latency event-driven workflows and operate AWS Lakehouse infrastructure using S3, Glue, EMR, and Redshift.
  • Develop AI-ready data products and feature pipelines for analytics and operational AI use cases.
  • Lead migration of legacy batch ETL systems to cloud-native, event-driven architectures.
  • Translate architectural designs into scalable implementations and collaborate with solution architects, product owners, and program managers.
  • Define data engineering standards, coding practices, CI/CD and DevOps processes, and mentor engineers.
  • Travel for business and periodically commute to a regional engagement hub or Hyderabad for meetings, training, or culture events as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with 8+ years of ELT/ETL, data warehousing, Lakehouse, or large-scale data platform engineering experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, 10+ years of equivalent hands-on experience in large-scale data environments.
  • 8+ years of full-lifecycle data engineering experience across Ab Initio, Kafka, Spark, Hive, relational databases, and AWS services.
  • 5+ years of experience with 24x7 real-time or streaming pipelines.
  • 2+ years of AWS cloud platform engineering experience, including infrastructure-as-code and containerized workloads.
  • Experience leading or mentoring data engineering teams in an Agile/SAFe delivery environment.
  • Experience with FinTech, credit card, or banking environments and regulated sensitive data is preferred.
  • AWS Solutions Architect or AWS Data Engineer certification, or active pursuit of certification, is preferred.
  • Exposure to agentic AI or LLM-integrated data workflows is preferred.
  • Thought leadership through articles, publications, or open-source contributions is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical topics and influence IT and business stakeholders.

  • Regular work timing is 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM IST, with required availability during 06:00 AM to 11:30 AM Eastern Time; remaining hours are flexible.
  • Occasional in-person attendance or travel to Hyderabad or a regional engagement hub may be required.
  • The role is part of Synchrony India’s Grade/Level 11 organization.
