Responsibilities
- Build and operate the streaming and messaging platform using Kafka, Kafka Connect, Flink, and SQS.
- Improve platform efficiency, reliability, resilience, observability, and operational maturity.
- Build Terraform modules and tooling for self-service provisioning of governed, cost-controlled operational data stores.
- Develop AI- and agent-based tooling that enables engineering teams to operate their own data infrastructure.
- Implement data quality checks for operational data, including Kafka-based checks.
- Collaborate with the Analytical Data team to provide clean handover points into the analytics platform.
- Participate in on-call rotations and automate operational toil.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience as a data, software, or platform engineer building and operating production data infrastructure at scale.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in a backend language such as Go, Java, Scala, or Python.
- Deep production experience with event streaming and messaging systems, particularly Kafka.
- Understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and DynamoDB, and their trade-offs.
- Experience building infrastructure on AWS using Terraform, containers, and Kubernetes.
- Ownership of reliability, efficiency, and developer experience, with comfort handling on-call responsibilities.
- Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills.
- Nice to have experience with Flink, Kafka Connect, self-service developer platforms, or data lake architectures.
