Senior Data Platform Engineer, Intelligent Platforms (all genders)
HelloFreshResponsibilities
- Build, operate, and improve the Kafka, Kafka Connect, Flink, and SQS streaming and messaging platform.
- Drive reductions in platform cost and complexity while improving efficiency.
- Own the availability, resilience, observability, and operational maturity of critical data paths.
- Develop Terraform modules and tooling for self-service provisioning of governed operational data stores.
- Build AI- and agent-based tooling that enables teams to operate and maintain their own data infrastructure.
- Implement data quality checks for operational data, including checks on Kafka.
- Collaborate with the Analytical Data team to establish reliable handover points into the analytics platform.
- Participate in on-call rotations and automate operational work to reduce manual intervention.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience as a data, software, or platform engineer building and operating production data infrastructure at scale.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in a backend language such as Go, Java, Scala, or Python.
- Deep production experience with event streaming and messaging systems, particularly Kafka.
- Understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, including trade-offs among PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and DynamoDB.
- Experience building infrastructure on AWS using Terraform, containers, and Kubernetes.
- Ownership of reliability, efficiency, and developer experience, including comfort with on-call responsibilities.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering teams.
- Preferred: experience with Flink, stream processing, Kafka Connect, self-service developer platforms, or data lake architectures.
