Responsibilities
- Serve as the key technical architect across multiple client engagements and align technical strategy with business outcomes.
- Lead architecture across frontend, backend, mobile, and cloud layers for scalable and maintainable systems.
- Write production-grade software and contribute directly to implementation, testing, code reviews, and documentation.
- Build and maintain Java backend services, initially using Dropwizard.
- Collaborate with Hardware, Data Science, Design, Product Managers, Technical Leads, sales, and client success teams.
- Support pre-sales efforts through technical scoping, estimation, and Statements of Work.
- Develop and manage deployments, CI/CD pipelines, logging, monitoring, alerting, and observability.
- Identify and mitigate architectural, delivery, and production risks.
- Lead junior engineers, mentor teams, and contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and talent development.
- Represent Very in client meetings and industry events and participate in diagnosing production issues and 24/7 on-call rotations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of professional software development experience.
- Professional backend development experience with Java or another modern object-oriented language.
- At least 3 years of technical leadership experience overseeing cross-functional engineering teams.
- Demonstrated success delivering full-stack systems from concept through production and supporting public-facing production systems at scale.
- Experience leading complex platform, backend, and frontend projects.
- Strong client-facing communication and executive presentation skills.
- Professional services or consulting experience is strongly preferred.
- Deep expertise in backend application development and experience with production frameworks such as Dropwizard, Spring Boot, Django, or FastAPI.
- Strong experience with React, Expo, Vite, and TypeScript.
- Experience with relational and non-relational data modeling and event-driven cloud platforms in AWS and Azure.
- Strong experience with AWS services including Lambda, ECS, Fargate, RDS, CloudFront, CloudWatch, SNS, and SQS.
- High proficiency with GitHub Actions and infrastructure as code using Terraform or Pulumi.
- Must reside in the United States and be a US citizen.
