Responsibilities

  • Define and execute engineering roadmaps that improve quality, efficiency, and developer experience across the organisation.
  • Lead high-impact technical initiatives that improve delivery pace, predictability, and operational efficiency.
  • Influence teams’ technical decisions and drive incremental improvements aligned with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with Architecture, Portfolio, Engineering Managers, and delivery teams on technical direction and target architecture states.
  • Champion Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery, including automated testing, build and deployment pipelines, and observability.
  • Contribute to software design and development through code reviews and pairing.
  • Mentor engineers and support capability uplift and engineering culture improvements.
  • Support hiring processes and performance development within the engineering organisation.
  • Facilitate technical discussions, team ceremonies, and estimation activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, another related certification, or equivalent on-the-job experience.
  • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages, such as TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, or Java, with the ability to work across multiple languages and ecosystems.
  • Typically 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including leadership of projects, technical initiatives, or engineering practices.
  • Ability to influence technical direction and drive outcomes without formal authority.
  • Deep knowledge of software engineering principles, system design, design patterns, testing strategies, and modern development practices.
  • Experience designing and evolving architectures for distributed systems and cloud-native applications, with AWS preferred.
  • Strong understanding of API design and communication patterns including REST, GraphQL, and gRPC, plus JSON and protobuf data formats.
  • Extensive experience with Continuous Delivery, automated testing, build and deployment pipelines, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Experience with platform-level projects serving other engineers or teams and with designing, building, and enforcing team and service interfaces and boundaries.
  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders and experience working with remote teams across global locations and time zones.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, self-motivation, proactivity, and an interest in current software engineering technologies and practices.
