Responsibilities
- Design, build, maintain, and operate scalable backend services and APIs for mid-mile transport and warehouse operations.
- Own technical initiatives end to end, including system design, delivery, monitoring, iteration, and cross-team project leadership.
- Make architecture and trade-off decisions over a 6–12 month horizon while balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and technical debt.
- Help evolve the Ruby on Rails modular monolith through clearer module boundaries and well-defined APIs.
- Collaborate with Product, Operations, Decision Science, and engineering teams on discovery, sequencing, implementation, RFCs, contracts, and dependencies.
- Review code, pair on difficult problems, explain complex changes, maintain documentation, onboard team members, and mentor engineers.
- Own service reliability, alerts, metrics, SLOs, incident follow-up, and participation in on-call rotations.
- Interview candidates and help raise the engineering bar.
- Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve development workflows.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience building systems and owning work from design through production.
- Solid Ruby experience or the ability and motivation to learn Vinted’s backend stack quickly.
- Understanding of API design, database-backed systems, observability, and operating production services.
- Ability to work independently on diverse problems and provide advice on difficult technical matters.
- Pragmatic approach to balancing delivery speed, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
- Ability to work through ambiguity and break complex product or operational problems into clear technical steps.
- Interest in knowledge sharing, mentoring, feedback, and raising team engineering standards.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Experience with logistics, warehouse management, fulfillment, operational workflows, physical-device integrations, or modularizing a large monolith is advantageous.
