Responsibilities
- Define team goals and prioritise work in alignment with company objectives.
- Design and implement complex technical solutions and influence engineering standards.
- Own large technical features from design through completion, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Provide technical direction, proactively reduce technical debt, and simplify services and processes.
- Build scalable, reliable, observable, and resilient backend platforms for UW’s Partner proposition.
- Develop systems supporting partner onboarding, lead routing, appointments, and partner business management.
- Lead complex projects and discovery work while making pragmatic technical trade-offs.
- Mentor engineers through pairing and code reviews and model engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers in autonomous, product-focused teams.
Requirements
- Experience with Go is preferred but not essential.
- Proven fluency with Postgres, Kafka, and Kubernetes.
- Solid experience building distributed systems involving concurrency and event-driven architectures.
- Strong understanding of resilience, observability, uptime, SLAs, and progressive degradation.
- Ability to deliver end-to-end solutions from design and build through deployment and support.
- Experience with CI/CD tooling, Terraform, and modern cloud workflows.
- Familiarity with Kafka and database migrations, such as CockroachDB to RDS, is a plus.
- Experience mentoring mid-level engineers and demonstrating engineering best practices.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in an agile, iterative, autonomous, product-focused environment.
- Hands-on experience with AI development tools and AI-assisted software development.
- Comfort working as a player-coach while solving complex business problems.
