Responsibilities
- Lead the multi-year modernization of the web platform from Ember.js to Next.js.
- Design interoperability layers that allow legacy and modern applications to coexist without customer impact.
- Define and maintain enterprise web boilerplates, core libraries, state-management patterns, rendering patterns, and design system integrations.
- Integrate agentic AI tools into the software development lifecycle for documentation, testing, code audits, and engineering throughput.
- Set technical quality standards and automated delivery gates for strategic vendor partners and distributed teams.
- Architect local development environments, CI/CD feedback loops, and developer tooling.
- Own performance budgets, Core Web Vitals, SEO performance, and Real User Monitoring-driven architectural decisions.
- Partner with Product and UX leadership to create scalable technical roadmaps.
- Influence cross-functional use of the web platform beyond customer-facing AE.com applications.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience.
- At least 3 years in a Staff or Principal role leading architecture for high-scale enterprise web platforms.
- Deep expertise in Next.js, React, and Node.js, including scalable micro-frontend or island architectures.
- Experience architecting Backend-for-Frontend layers using Node.js, GraphQL, or Express.
- Experience decomposing and migrating legacy monoliths such as Ember.js, Backbone, or Angular.js.
- Significant experience building and scaling enterprise design systems with Storybook.
- Experience establishing engineering standards, enterprise boilerplates, Bitbucket CI/CD pipelines, and automated quality gates.
- Practical experience using agentic AI and LLM tools such as Gemini and Code Assist.
- Deep understanding of Web Vitals, SEO optimization, browser internals, and Real User Monitoring data.
- Experience governing technical output from distributed teams and external vendors.
- Expertise with Playwright and observability platforms such as New Relic, Quantum Metric, and OTe.
- Preferred experience with Module Federation, GraphQL schema design, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Terraform, AWS CDK, headless commerce, inventory orchestration, high-traffic transactional systems, WCAG, Optimizely, Google Tag Manager, SGTM, and native iOS/Android development.
