Responsibilities

  • Lead technical teams and define technical strategy and architecture across multiple services.
  • Deliver hands-on coding and support the full software development lifecycle from analysis and design through implementation and quality assurance.
  • Design and develop new features while supporting run-and-maintain activities across services.
  • Drive code reviews, quality assurance, best practices, and process optimisation.
  • Lead projects from start to finish, translating customer requirements into technical designs and managing technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor and coach developers while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary Product, UCD, and Delivery teams and balance technical, user, and business needs.
  • Champion user-centred development and ensure research, design, accessibility, and inclusive design are appropriately considered.

Requirements

  • Experience leading technical teams and defining technical strategy and architecture for multiple services.
  • Full-stack or backend development background with experience in Python and TypeScript or similar technologies.
  • Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS or Azure and infrastructure as code experience using Terraform.
  • Experience delivering UK Government digital services and strong understanding of the GDS/NHS Service Standard and assessment process.
  • Experience delivering full-lifecycle software services and leading projects from analysis and design through implementation and quality assurance.
  • Proven experience driving quality assurance, code reviews, process optimisation, stakeholder management, and technical design.
  • Strong collaborative leadership, communication, presentation, mentoring, and coaching skills.
  • Desirable experience includes delivery within multidisciplinary product teams, knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design including WCAG standards, and experience working in complex organisations or programmes with competing priorities.
  • Must be willing to travel to client sites anywhere in the UK when needed and have the right to work in the UK.
