Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end delivery of production-ready core AI components, including embeddings, similarity search, semantic retrieval, and reusable model building blocks.
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership and make independent implementation-level technical decisions for related AI/ML components.
- Translate Principal Engineer architectural decisions into concrete technical specifications and identify solutions that will not generalize across domain teams.
- Design and deliver production ML systems involving representation learning, retrieval-augmented approaches, LLMs, agent-based solutions, and multimodal models.
- Mentor senior engineers and lead cross-functional teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, master’s degree, or PhD in Computer Science, AI/ML, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- At least 7 years of experience with demonstrated technical leadership; PhD holders may qualify with 6+ years.
- Proven experience leading the end-to-end design and delivery of production ML systems and setting technical direction for other engineers.
- Deep expertise in representation learning, embeddings, vector similarity search, and retrieval-augmented approaches.
- Strong knowledge of regression, classification, forecasting, model interpretability, and deep learning architectures including CNN, LSTM, GRU, GANs, BERT, diffusion models, and Transformers.
- Substantial experience with LLMs such as GPT-3/4, Claude, and Mistral, plus agent-based solutions using LangGraph, CrewAI, or AutoGen.
- Experience with multimodal or vision-language models that jointly encode imagery with text or structured data.
- Proficiency in Python; familiarity with C++ or Java is a plus.
- Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, large datasets, and distributed systems.
- Ability to make and defend independent architectural decisions, measure system effectiveness, mentor senior engineers, and lead cross-functional teams.
