
Lead Software Engineer - Java/Python/AWS
JPMorgan ChaseResponsibilities
- Own portfolio-level architecture and technical strategy for one or more firmwide platforms.
- Lead complex technical initiatives from discovery and design through delivery and operations.
- Define engineering standards, reusable patterns, reference implementations, roadmaps, product metrics, and KPIs.
- Partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to align technical decisions with business outcomes and product strategy.
- Mentor engineers across experience levels and lead design reviews, code reviews, and architectural guidance.
- Design and implement cloud-native backend services, GraphQL APIs, React UIs, Jira integrations, notification workflows, serverless architectures, and API extensions.
- Write secure, high-quality, documented code using multiple languages and frameworks.
- Establish standards for security, performance, availability, observability, cost efficiency, SLOs, SLAs, error budgets, and CI/CD quality gates.
- Evaluate technologies, lead proofs of concept, improve developer experience, and promote secure-by-design, privacy-aware, and threat-modeling practices.
Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and at least five years of applied experience.
- At least five years of API software development experience with Java Spring and Python FastAPI.
- At least two years of AWS experience, including services such as ECS/Fargate, SNS, SQS, Lambda, API Gateway, and S3.
- At least three years of experience with relational databases.
- Experience deploying cloud services using Infrastructure as Code.
- Expertise in distributed system design, including AWS stability, resiliency, and security.
- Capability in application architecture, technical leadership, and improving engineering practices and operations.
- Experience developing, debugging, deploying, and maintaining code in large enterprise environments.
- Understanding of agile methodologies and practices.
- Ability to mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and guide architectural decisions.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Preferred: exposure to React and GraphQL; AI/ML and vector databases; CockroachDB, Aurora Postgres, and DynamoDB; video streaming, content management, or media platforms; email servers and SMTP; observability, performance optimization, and cloud cost governance.
