Responsibilities
- Build and operate backend services supporting payments, payouts, verification, onboarding, balance activation, and money movement.
- Own work end-to-end from ambiguous requirements and technical proposals through implementation, feature-flagged rollout, monitoring, and production operation.
- Develop and scale high-throughput services in Go and connect them to reliable, always-on payment and verification flows.
- Build resilient third-party provider integrations with API clients, callbacks, durable workflows, dashboards, SLA alerts, and vendor debugging.
- Design distributed systems that handle timeouts, outages, rate limits, retries, missing callbacks, inconsistent responses, and data consistency issues.
- Handle sensitive financial and personal data through PII tagging, log masking, retention, and deletion practices.
- Use AI-assisted engineering workflows for development, debugging, production investigation, planning, and documentation.
- Write unit tests and contribute to integration and end-to-end testing.
- Own critical alerts and business metrics, participate in on-call rotations, and maintain high-availability systems targeting 99.99% uptime.
Requirements
- Solid experience building and running backend services in production.
- Deep knowledge of at least one programming language and the ability to become productive in Go; Go and/or Ruby experience is advantageous.
- Experience with API design, caching, system architecture, and distributed systems fundamentals.
- Experience or strong interest in building reliable systems where correctness, availability, and data consistency matter.
- Ability to clarify ambiguous requirements, propose trade-offs, align stakeholders, and drive implementation.
- Product-oriented approach focused on user and business outcomes and practical, maintainable solutions.
- Experience documenting technical work through proposals, RFCs, ADRs, or technical plans.
- Strong focus on observability, dashboards, alerts, and operational ownership.
- Ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-engineers and provide constructive code and design reviews.
- Comfort working with sensitive financial or personal data and compliance or regulatory constraints.
- Effective use of AI tools and agentic workflows and ability to help the wider team improve their use.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Payments, fintech, KYC/AML, regulated-domain, Temporal or similar workflow-engine, third-party API integration, ledger, money movement, verification, identity, compliance, or high-availability financial systems experience is advantageous.
