Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for mid-mile transport and warehouse operations.
- Integrate with payment providers such as Adyen and other external services.
- Own technical initiatives from problem framing and system design through delivery, monitoring, and iteration.
- Lead cross-team projects and make architecture and trade-off decisions with a 6–12 month horizon.
- Help evolve a large Ruby on Rails modular monolith toward clearer module boundaries and well-defined APIs.
- Collaborate with Product, Operations, Decision Science, and neighboring engineering teams on discovery, sequencing, implementation, RFCs, and dependencies.
- Conduct code reviews, pair on difficult problems, document complex changes, mentor and onboard engineers, and share knowledge.
- Own service reliability, alerts, metrics, SLOs, incident follow-up, and participation in on-call rotations.
- Interview candidates and help raise engineering standards.
- Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve development workflows.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience building systems and owning work from design through production.
- Solid Ruby experience or the ability and motivation to learn Vinted’s backend stack quickly.
- Understanding of API design, database-backed systems, observability, and operating production services.
- Ability to work independently on diverse problems and advise teammates on difficult technical matters.
- Pragmatic approach to balancing delivery speed, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
- Ability to work with ambiguity and break complex product or operational problems into clear technical steps.
- Interest in knowledge sharing, mentoring, direct feedback, and raising team engineering standards.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Experience with logistics, warehouse management, fulfillment, operational workflows, physical-device integrations, or modularizing a large monolith is advantageous.
