Responsibilities
- Own Oracle database architecture for Amazon RDS and establish database best practices and team standards.
- Design and implement scalable database automation, infrastructure, operational tooling, and complex features.
- Lead investigations, customer escalations, incident response, root-cause analysis, and permanent resolution of systemic issues.
- Develop monitoring, testing, benchmarking, performance validation, and prevention strategies.
- Lead design reviews, define database roadmap specifications, and drive technical strategy across teams.
- Mentor junior database engineers and software development engineers and lead projects involving multiple engineers.
- Represent customer learnings in engineering processes, feature design, and end-to-end test planning.
- Present database best practices at conferences and workshops.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Five years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
- Five years of experience designing, architecting, and leading robust and scalable database automation solutions.
- Five years of experience mentoring software and database engineers on database internals and best practices.
- Five years of experience leading database benchmarking and performance-validation automation frameworks.
- Five years of experience coding database management tooling in PL/SQL and Java and establishing reusable coding standards.
- Five years of experience defining specifications and technical strategy for database roadmap items.
- Five years of experience leading on-call operations for managed database services, including incident response, root-cause analysis, and permanent remediation.
- Preferred: ten or more years working with relational database systems and deep knowledge of Oracle internals, storage engines, query optimization, memory management, and replication.
- Preferred: experience with Oracle high-availability solutions, Multi-AZ deployments, Data Guard, read replicas on Amazon RDS, RDS Custom for Oracle, AWS integrations, database migration, enterprise-scale optimization, and customer engagements.
